Warm Animals 03:49
I looked for the wild beyond the city and its walls, but the wild hid in a disguise of shame. And finding it there I begged it to restore my bones. For so long I've been driven by the clock. Warm animals - like us they're holding on so tight. In hollows out of sight, finding peace in the solace of retreat. Oh, each day it sings of all the now forgotten things that were here long before we had arrived. Won't you come with me? There's land where we can rest our heads, and the day will roll into the night unharmed. Warm animals - like us they're holding on so tight. In hollows out of sight, finding peace in the solace of retreat.

The Oak Tree 02:14
There, in the garden of the oak tree, in the shady shade of the leaves, he'll see you waiting by. In the magic of the oak tree, whispering so softly, he'll catch you by surprise. And you'll come forward, he'll leave you wanting more. More. If you surrender, you'll be spared from feeling as you go under. There, in the garden of the oak tree, he'll kiss you on the forehead. He'll lift your summer dress and masquerade as a breeze underneath the oak tree. He'll catch you unawares. And you'll come forward, he'll leave you wanting more. More. If you surrender, you'll be spared from feeling as you go under. Take my advice.

Geese 05:06
Each one went like the one before, safe in flight. Each one went like the one in front. All in line, in pefect rows. All in line, in perfect time. When they leave, south for winter to warmer seas. When they go, I'm gathering feathers to soon follow. Each one saw all the towns below, safe in flight. Far enough from the people there, safe in line, in perfect rows. All in line, in perfect time. When they leave, south for winter to warmer seas. When they go I'm gathering feathers to soon follow.

Take your time little girl, hold your weight on my back step. Lord knows you should be at home. Take your time little girl, do you know where you are here? When Lord knows you should be in bed. Allow me little girl, we'd like to cut your hair. We'll entice you down and danger grows in your mind. And in the secret of our lullaby, you're not safe. You're not safe in here. You're not safe. Close your eyes but watch the time, there's things you don't need to see in here. And Lord knows you should be at home. Hold your mind and keep your clothes. Everyone would like a piece of you. And Lord knows you should be in bed - in my bed. Allow me little girl, we'd like to cut your hair. We'll entice you down and danger grows in your mind. And in the secret of our lullaby, you're not safe. You're not safe in here. You're not safe.

Too Soon 06:17
We left when the day was still young. A journey to fix the harm done. Each step dragged us closer to find the peace we had longed for some time. Out here, the road we tread is worn. Our hands are tied, each step we make forlorn. The fragile roof, our fragile roof came tumbling down, came tumbling down. I lost you there, I lost you there on the stormy ground, the stormy ground. Now what trouble lies here? Beneath the dark gaze of milky moon. In these shattered arms I'll hold you dear. The daylight can't come too soon. Now your palms, they begin to reveal the forecast of dangers more real. Each look draws us closer to find the peace we had longed for some time. Out here the road we tread is worn. Our hands are tied, each step we make forlorn. The wolves creep in, the wolves creep in and circle near, circle near. No struggle left, no spirit left, they circle near, circle near. Now what trouble lies here? Beneath the dark gaze of milky moon. In these shattered arms I'll hold you dear. The daylight can't come too soon.
6.
Turn off the sun for a while, off my head for a while. Sick to the stomach and cold to touch. I wish I could remember exactly where I fell off. Turn off the power for a while, off your voice for a while. And save your lies for a warmer night. With no grace, I'll be on my way now. I'll be on my way now.

Ae Fond Kiss 03:32
Ae fond kiss and then we sever. Ae fareweel and then forever. Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee. Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee. Who shall say that fortune grieves him, while the star of hope she leaves him. Me nae cheerful twinkle lights me, dark despair around benights me. Had we never loved sae blindly, had we never loved sae kindly - never met or never parted, we'd have ne'er been brokenhearted. Ae fond kiss and then we sever. Ae fareweel alas forever. Thine be ilka joy and treasure, peace, enjoyment, love and pleasure.

about

We recorded this EP live in front of a small audience of (very patient!) friends last year, at the beautiful Old Pig Farm studio in the rolling countryside north of Sheffield. It's a mix of old songs and new - a folk song can never really be finished, and these new recordings have reimagined and expanded some old favourites into something much bigger. We were really lucky to be joined by a fantastic group of guest musicians, so for the first time you can hear these songs with added clarinet, violin, electric guitar, percussion and backing vocals.

We'll be launching the new record with a tour this autumn and a very special gig in Sheffield, so keep an eye out for that. Friends of the band will know that it's taken us a little while to get here - we’ve suffered a some setbacks over the last few years - but we hope you think it's worth the wait! Thanks for sticking with us,

Sarah & Ben x

about

Captives On The Carousel Sheffield, UK

Captives on the Carousel are Sarah Morrey and Ben Eckersley.

They play folk originals on cello and guitar, telling stories of enchantment and dark goings on...

Sarah's poetic lyrics combined with Ben's haunting strings draw you into a world of mystery and magic.

"A more charming duo purveying mysterious, spine-tingly pop you're unlikely to find this side of Narnia."
